The specific objectives of the Project are to (i) provide livelihood and develop capacity and skills that provides sustainability to the refugees and DPs; (ii) contribute towards economic development and social stability by providing employment opportunities to refugees and DPs through rehabilitation of roads; and (iii) provide an opportunity for pilot testing seamless transition from humanitarian aid to reconstruction. The Project scope includes: (i) rehabilitation/reconstruction of a major portion of the 101 km Kandahar-Spin Boldak road including two bridges; (ii) community mobilization and training; (iii) educational support involving construction/rehabilitation of schools in Kandahar, provision of educational material, equipment, books, school dress and support for teachers; (iv) basic health education and services through community health workers, supply of medicines, etc. community managed construction and operation of health facilities and rehabilitation/upgrading of health facilities in Kandahar; (v) provision of micro-credit for starting up income generating activities; and (vi) project management and monitoring
