Community-Based Urban Water Supply Management Project. Municipal Development Project Management Unit tegutsemiskoht Armeenia.
The Project objective is to improve the safety and reliability of the water supply services to communities in Yerevan participating in the project. This objective will be achieved by piloting a community-based approach designed to implement with a support of local NGOs, a program of creation and empowerment of CBOs in order to manage the water supply distribution systems owned by the homeowners of multi-apartment buildings. This project brings leverage to an IDA-financed Municipal Development Project that is focused on systems improvements under the responsibility of Yerevan Water and Sewerage Company (YWSC). The proposed community-based program is aimed at reducing the very large water losses and wastage inside apartment buildings. As a part of the program, the CBOs will manage communal water distribution systems, install individual apartment water meters and implement minor repairs of the piping systems, collect the fees to maintain the systems and pay the water company for its services. In order to fulfill their functions, the CBOs will require substantial assistance in their creation, organization, and empowerment. The public awareness, mobilization of communities and capacity building activities targeted at the CBOs will be implemented by local NGOs supported by an International Consultant with experience in community-based infrastructure projects
